Moral policing: Video of Mumbai Cops thrashing couple goes viral

A video of Mumbai police beating a couple under moral policing has gone viral on social media on Saturday in which Waghmare, along with a constable, can be seen thrashing a youth and verbally abusing his female friend.

According to reports a senior police inspector from the Hill Line police station at Ulhasnagar near Thane, approached the couple who were seated in a rickshaw and started beating up the boy and verbally abusing the girl.
After beating them up, the police had allowed the couple to leave.

Justifying their act, police alleged that they were driven into action after the locals made a complaint against the couple.

Moral policing by Mumbai police is becoming quit common. In August this year a senior police officers were pulled up by then Mumbai police commissioner Rakesh Maria. Police also fining couples for indecent behaviour in public.
