Victim of racist rant, Irqa called a terrorist, co-passengers smiled, did nothing in London

London: Irqa Mohamed, 20-year-old Muslim student claimed that when she was on a London bus she was ‘spat at and called a terrorist’ while other passengers ‘smiled and did nothing’.

Irqa said she was wearing a hijab on the bus in Islington and became a victim of racist rant .

She said she ‘did not think she would leave the bus alive’, ‘He moved seats and then called me a racist and a terrorist. He started to go crazy. He said people like me were coming into this country and taking all the jobs,’she said.

She added, ‘I do think it’s sad no one spoke up for me. The bus was full at one point and you could tell no one wanted anything to deal with him.’

Later she tweeted. ‘A white man spat at me in a buss [sic] of people and kept on cussing me out cause of my Hijaab while people smiled a laughed along.’

The abuse lasted for several stops till her another friend boarded the bus and confronted him. Later she lodged a complaint to the British Transport Police. The spokesman of Transport for London said racism is ‘not tolerated’ on the bus and they would work the police on any investigation into the incident.
