Vibrant manufacturing sector key for growth of Indian economy, says Jaitley

New Delhi: Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Thursday said that the growth of the Indian economy is heavily dependent on the manufacturing sector retaining its vibrancy.

“Kick-starting our manufacturing sector and improving its growth rate further is one of greatest challenges to the Indian economy,” said Jaitley while inaugurating the ‘ India Economic Convention 2015’ here.

“If we can handle that problem and its ability to absorb a number of people coming from rural India then India’s growth story can be much larger,” he added.

Jaitley, however, asserted that the service sector is doing well and always has been in the vicinity of double digit growth.

“The growths in the other sectors are directly going to impact on it,” he added.

He said the government is working towards improving the ease of doing business in the country.

He also impressed upon the need of attracting more investment to the manufacturing sector.

“We will try over the next few days to put to sleep many of the pending tax disputes,” he added. (ANI)
