Rajya Sabha member V Hanumantha Rao has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to organize Mahathma Jythirao Govindrao Phule’s birth (April 11) and death (November 28) anniversaries as official functions every year and earmark funds in the budget accordingly as was done to Dr B R Ambedkar, who adored Phule.

Hanumantha Rao addressed a letter to the Chief Minister in this regard on Saturday. He stated the people of India would know about the ideals and thoughts iof Mahatma Phule along with his contributions to the society and also make over 50 per cent population of India i.e. OBCs happy and honoured.

It may be recalled that the Centre was celebrating the 125th birth anniversary of the architect of the Indian Constitution Bharat Ratna Dr B R Ambedkar as the Constitution Day from this year.
