Van Gaal backs Rooney despite poor PL performance

Johannesburg, Sept.19 : Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has backed skipper Wayne Rooney despite his failure to score any goal in a Premier League game since the first weekend in April, saying that he has range of scoring shots, and one can count all the goals he has made.

The Dutchman said that Rooney is the record holder in the Premier League, adding that he hopes the 29-year-old will beat that record, Sport24 reported.

Van Gaal, however, said it’s not important that who is scoring, but his side have to score to win the matches.

Van Gaal further revealed that Rooney, who missed United’s victory over Liverpool last weekend due to hamstring injury, will probably play in the next match as he had undergone treatment.

Manchester will next lock horns with Southampton on September 19.(ANI)
