US welcomes Vietnamese blogger, urges country to release more dissidents

New York: The United States has welcomed a Vietnamese blogger who decided to travel to America after he was freed.

According to ABC News, the US has urged Vietnam to free more such dissidents.

Terry White, a U.S. Embassy public affairs officer said in a statement that they welcomed the decision by Vietnam to release Ta Phong Tan.

He also said that the US was extremely concerned for all the people who had been detained in Vietnam for exercising their human rights and fundamental freedom.

Tan, 47, a former policewoman, was arrested in 2011 for writing about human rights and corruption on her blog.

She was sentenced to 10 years in prison on charges of spreading anti-state propaganda. (ANI)
