Urdu University made no progress during 17 years: Zafar Sareshwala

Disappointment reigns for university staff and students on the appointment of new Vice Chancellor of the first national Urdu University of the country. It is said that the central government has ignored the names recommended by university Chancellor Zafar Sareshwala and appointed Dr. Aslam Parvez, Principal Zakir Husain Delhi College as the new Vice Chancellor. Although Zafar Sareshwala has welcomed the appointment however he has to say that he preferred a scientist and an experienced administrator.

Mr. Sareshwala felt that the university needed an experienced person to take it to new heights of success. He was in a favour of a scientist to introduce modern courses in the university however he accepted the name approved by the president.

It must be noted that the screening committee had shortlisted 3 names for the post of vice chancellor. Top on the list was the name of Prof. Siraj ur Rahman, followed by Prof. Faizan Mustafa Vice Chancellor Nalsar University Hyderabad, while Dr. Aslam Parvez was on 3rd number. But by approving the 3rd name the president surprised everyone.

It is said that Human Resource Development Ministry did not consult Mr. Zafar Sareshwala before approving the name. Talking to Siasat, Mr. Zafar Sareshwala lamented that the university made no significant progress during the past 17 years.
