UoH conducts Foreign Languages Mela-2015

The University of Hyderabad (UoH) organised the Foreign Languages Mela-2015 here on Friday. This is the 5th Mela.

The aim of Mela was to introduce to the students other cultures. All the 10 foreign languages (French, German, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Turkish and Persian) which are being currently offered in the Centre had put up different stalls demonstrating the respective cultural patterns of each country through posters, banners, books, displaying cultural items etc.,

The chief guest for the event was Ali Paryad, Senior Consulate, Iran Embassy, Hyderabad who inaugurated the Mela. He spoke about the significance of the culture in language learning and also highlighted the importance of Persian culture in Deccan. Ali Niroomand, Public Relations Officer talked about the role of Persian culture and language in the Indian sub-continent in general and South India in particular. Prof. Panchanan Mohanty, Dean, School of Humanities highlighted the contribution of Persian language on different Indian languages like Punjabi, Hindi, Oriya, Telugu, etc., He also pointed out the need for preserving the ancient manuscripts in Persian language in Hyderabad and sought the cooperation from the Iran Consulate, Hyderabad to do the same.

Osman Kayaoglu, Director, Indialogue Foundation, Hyderabad spoke about the Turkey Culture and also the on-going collaboration between University of Hyderabad and Mevlana University, Turkey. He also mentioned about the Indo-Turkish Conference organized by the Centre in 16-17 October, 2014 and the future conference which will be organized in Mevlana University, Turkey in October, 2016. He specifically observed that an Interdisciplinary Centre for India Studies will be established in Mevlana University at the initiative of the Centre. It is first of its kind in Turkey.

Prof. J. Prabhakara Rao, Head, CSFL thanked the Iran Culture House, Mumbai for its collaboration with the University of Hyderabad in providing a faculty to conduct Persian language course on voluntarily basis. He also thanked the Iran Culture House, Mumbai introducing Persian Language Level-II also in the current semester. The Inaugural function ended with the vote of thanks by Prof. J. Prabhakara Rao.

After the inauguration the guests visited different stalls. There was a very good response to the Mela and it was visited by 300 students till evening. (INN)
