UK alerts Bangladesh to possibility of more attacks on Westerners

Dhaka: The United Kingdom (UK) has alerted Bangladesh on the possibility of more attacks on westerners, and added that these attacks could be ‘indiscriminate’ in nature.

The Bangladesh Government has, meanwhile, assured Dhaka-based diplomats about their safety.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal was quoted by bdnews24 that all areas have been covered and proper safety has been ensured.

Meanwhile, the British Government has amended the travel advice and has reflected on the current threat to westerners in Bangladesh. No advice against travelling to Bangladesh has been confirmed by the British High Commission in Bangladesh.

The warnings have come after two foreign nationals were killed in Bangladesh within a week. On 28th September, an Italian national Cesare Tavella was killed in the diplomatic zone. Later, on 3rd October, a Japanese national Kunio Hoshi was shot dead in the northern district of Rangpur in Bangladesh.

The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has claimed responsibility for both murders, but the government has denied the claim as no such facts surfaced. (ANI)
