Two more cellphones recovered from Muzaffarnagar jail

Two more mobiles have been found from the premises of the district jail here, taking the count of such seized phones to nine, jail authorities said today.

The two cellphones were found covered in a polythene bag from a jail compound yesterday and an inquiry has been initiated into the incident, Jailor A K Singh said.

Seven mobiles were recovered from the district jail recently during various surprise raids, following which district jail warden Ziauddin was suspended for negligence of duty.

It is suspected that some miscreants threw the two mobiles in a polythene bag from outside the jail premises, Singh said.

It was found out during investigations that these mobile phones were used to extort money from businessmen, police said.

A case has been registered against unidentified persons and investigation is on to identify those responsible for using the mobile phones for extortion, Singh added.
