Two injured in Udhampur truck attack flown to Delhi for treatment

Srinagar: Two men who sustained serious burn injuries when a mob set ablaze a Kashmir Valley-bound truck in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur town were on Saturday airlifted to New Delhi for treatment, officials said.
Authorities here said Zahid Rasool Bhat, 16, and Showkat Ahmad Dar, 35, who sustained serious burn injuries in Friday’s incident were being taken to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the capital.
“Both the persons being treated for serious burn injuries in a Jammu hospital have been shifted today (on Saturday) to New Delhi for specialized treatment at AIIMS,” a senior state government official told IANS here.
“The state government has also provided four air tickets to family members of the injured so that they can be with the injured during treatment in New Delhi. All boarding and lodging arrangements for the relatives and the medical expenses for the injured would be borne by the state government,” the official added.
A mob had torched the truck when its driver had stopped for a night halt in Udhampur town, which is tense after three animal carcasses were found in Chenani area of the district.
Rameez Ahmad had managed to escape and hid himself from the attackers after they threw a petrol bomb setting the vehicle ablaze.
Dar and Bhat had sustaine d serious burn injuries in this attack.
The incident also rocked the state assembly on Saturday.
