Two arrested, 58 cartons of smuggled liquor seized in UP

Noida: Two persons were arrested and 58 cartons of liquor were seized from various locations of Gautam Buddha Nagar district while it was allegedly smuggled from Haryana, an excise official said here today.

Around 200 cartons of smuggled liquor was seized by district excise teams and police in last one week, Ram Ujagir Maurya, District Excise Officer of Gautam Buddha Nagar said.

“Last night, the district Excise team seized 58 cartons of smuggled liquor,” he said.

“In Dankaur, one Yogesh was arrested and 11 cartons of liquor was seized from his car while at Noida Expressway Police station area one Ajay was arrested with 3 cartons of liquor,” Maurya said.

“While 20 cartons of liquor were seized from a car in Ecotech 3 area, in another case 24 cartons of liquor were recovered from a Maruti 800. In both cases the smugglers managed to flee,” he said.

“As alcohol is cheaper in Haryana by 30 to 50 per cent, liquor mafias smuggle it to Uttar Pradesh. At the borders, the excise officials along with police are regularly keeping watch on incoming vehicles to check smuggling,” Excise inspector V P Singh said.
