TJAC demands hike in ex-gratia for farmers

Telangana Joint Action Committee chairman Prof. M Kodandaram on Tuesday demanded that the Telangana Government increase the ex-gratia amount to Rs. 5 lakh for the families of famers who committed suicide.

Kodandaram, along with other members of JAC, visited Siddipet mandal of Medak district to meet the families of farmers who committed suicide. Speaking to media persons later, he said that the State has been drought-like situation due to inadequate rainfall and crop failure has pushed the farmers into a debt trap. He urged the government to clear the crop loan dues on immediate basis to provide relief to the farmers. Further, he said farmers should be provided fresh loans, subsidised seeds and fertilizers.

The JAC Chairman also demanded that the State Government send special teams across the State to asses the damage to crop so as to provide adequate compensation. (INN)
