‘Time for print media to strike back’: Jaitley

New Delhi: Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday said that the print media needs to strike back as the dividing line between facts and opinions has become very blur.

Jaitley, who was speaking at the release of 59th Annual Report on Print Media ‘PRESS IN INDIA’, pointed out that India is an exception to the worldwide trend of decline in print media.

“Why do print media continue to grow in India? As there are two types of print media in the country; one is national and other one the regional print media,” he said.

“The print media has an opportunity to bring clear facts to the reader, amidst explosion of electronic media,” he added.

Jaitley also said the report showed that magazine journalism is growing and gathering its strength in the nation.

“The written word continues to be powerful; print media continues to grow in India at 5.80 percent in 2014-’15. In today’s age, consumer of news has to discern the truth from differing viewpoints and versions of news,” he added.
