‘Terrorism has no religion, stop politicising Yakub Memon’s hanging’: BJP

New Delhi, July 26 : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday said that the hanging of 1993 Bombay blasts convict Yakub Memon should not be communalised, adding that terrorism has no religion.

“Yakub Memon’s hanging is being politicised, a communal colour is being given to it. This is not right. Attempts are being made by some people to create a sense of sympathy for Yakub Memon…..The verdict of the Supreme Court should be respected,” BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra told mediapersons here.

“If the terrorism has no religion, how is it possible that a terrorist can be ascribed a religion…Everyone should respect the law of the country and no one is above the law,” he added.

The BJP leader’s response came after Bollywood actor Salman Khan tweeted that Yakub Memon should not be hanged as the real culprit is the latter’s brother Tiger Memon.

“Get tiger hang him. Parade him not his brother,” Salman tweeted.

“Brother is being hanged for tiger. Aarrre Whr is tiger?,” he said in another tweet.

On Thursday, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi had alleged that Memon is being hanged only because he belongs to a particular religion and added that death sentences of those convicted in former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination case were commuted to life imprisonment.

Yakub Memon has been sentenced to death for his role in the 1993 Mumbai blasts.

The Supreme Court had earlier this week rejected his last-minute appeal and upheld his hanging for July 30. (ANI)
