Taylor Swift Leads 2015 American Music Awards nominations

Taylor Swift, the reigning queen of the pop world, grabbed six American Music Awards nominations Tuesday. The singer will become the most-honored female artist in the show’s history.

Ed Sheeran and the Weeknd had five nominations each, trying to win their first awards. Sam Hunt, Nicki Minaj, Sam Smith, Meghan Trainor and Walk the Moon had three nominations each. The field will be narrowed to five nominees based on fan voting tallied through Nov. 11.

Swift, who has 16 career AMAs to her name (three of which are artist of the year honors), is a sweep away from eclipsing Whitney Houston as the AMAs’ most decorated artist. That’s if she wins all six of her categories, which include favorite album for 2014’s multi-platinum smash 1989 and song of the year for “Blank Space.”

Indeed, it’s the song category that looks to be especially competitive this year as radio favorites like Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth’s “See You Again,” “Uptown Funk!” by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars, Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” and The Weeknd’s “Can’t Feel My Face” face off.

Jennifer Lopez hosts this year’s ceremony, to air live Nov. 22 on ABC, originating from Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater.

The American Music Awards are produced by Dick Clark Productions, a sister company of The Hollywood Reporter and Billboard. Allen Shapiro and Mike Mahan are executive producers. Larry Klein, Barry Adelman and Mark Bracco are producers.
