Tamil folk singer arrested for sedation charges for anti Jay lalitha song

A folk singer S Kovan ,54-year-old has been arrested by the Chennai police from his house in Trichy in the wee hours of Friday. He was charged for making a song in which he criticised the Tamil Nadu government for the alcoholism in the state, and sedition for using alleged derogatory remarks against AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa in the lyrics.

The song that was sung by Kovan, was made on Jayalalithaa’s Poes Garden residence in Chennai. The singer blamed her for the state being under the influence of alcohol.

S Kovan, was a member of the Makkal Kalai Ilakkiya Kazhagam, and a senior performer of the group that deals with political issues.

The song has gone viral social media. His songs are mostly anti- government. He has also targeted the government on various issues such as rising food prices and education system in the state.

After the arrest, Kovan was brought to Chennai.
