T to become seed bowl of India: KCR

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao today said that agriculture sector in Telangana should get back its sheen to become a seed bowl of India. During a high level review meeting with Agriculture minister P Srinivas Reddy and officials at Secretariat here, the chief minister said that the farmers in the state will soon get go in for two crops as we are building new projects at Krishna and Godavari rivers besides completing the existing ones. Directing the officials to appoint vice chancellors through search committees he said that field crops should be turned as crop colonies to adopt modern practices. Telangana will sure become a seed bowl of the nation as it has many factors including different kinds of soils, favourite environment, rainfall, 500 seed companies and ICRISAT.

He said that the government is ready to appoint adequate staff and extend support for modern methods and mechanization in agriculture that will ultimately flourish our state in terms of better farm produce and make rich the farming community who are now in a haplessness situation. Stating that the government will extend all support for mechanization and recruiting the field level staff to suggest crops to the farmers, the chief minister asked the officials to encourage micro irrigation at rural areas.

Our ultimate aim is to grow soil based produce by offering timely suggestions on the fertilizers, seeds and use of waters he said. KCR also said that the farmers should grow more produce and reap in benefits through better marketing facilities. (NSS)

KCR expressed concern that the sector is yet to deliver abundant produce even as 70 per cent people are dependent on agriculture.
