T auto drivers to approach HC against Uber, Ola cabs

CABS

Telangana Auto Drivers JAC has decided to file a writ petition in the High Court challenging the RTA and police inaction against Uber and Ola Cabs indulging in “uneconomic competition” with autos.

The committee alleged that these cabs were collecting lesser rate per kilometer than the autos. They were not only providing free trips to passengers but also offering 33% concession in fares. Besides, they were openly advertising their offers on autos and RTC buses and the same was leading to deterioration of road system and the RTA and police authorities are remaining silent spectators.

In a statement here on Saturday, JAC convener Mohd Amanulla Khan stated that as per section 67 (d) of MV Act, it was the responsibility of the State Government to prevent “Uneconomic Competition” among the holders of permits such as Autos and Taxi Cabs. For this purpose, different rates of fares are fixed in respect of autos and different taxi cabs from time to time. If no action was taken against the illegal activities of these cabs, the Transport industry is bound to turn into a “Fish Market” very soon. Therefore, they have decided to file a writ petition in the High Court against Uber & Ola Cabs’ irregularities. The JAC also put off the proposed one-day auto bandh on November 30. (NSS)
