Suspicious drone near Delhi airport: Cops announce reward for info on accused

New Delhi: Delhi Police today announced a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh for any information on the accused who operated a suspicious unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) near the IGI Airport here in October.

On October 27, a UAV, which the police called a suspicious drone, was spotted multiple times near the airport, following which a case was registered under relevant sections of the suppression of unlawful acts against safety of civil aviation Act and the IPC, said a senior police official.

Following the incident, the Union Home Ministry had asked several agencies, including Delhi Police, to submit a detailed report on the case.

However, no clue about the drone operator could be found till date, despite security agencies taking several measures and conducting meetings.

Delhi Police particularly had conducted several meetings with heads of villages near the IGI Airport, but nothing came out of those meetings so far, leading to the announcement of the reward, said a police source.

“Today, the police commissioner announced a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh in connection with the case. It will come into force with immediate effect for the person(s)… who render any help to trace and arrest the accused person,” the senior official added.
