Sushma Swaraj meets President-elect of UN General Assembly

New Delhi: External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Sunday received Mogens Lykketoft, President-elect of the 70th Session of the UN General Assembly. Mr. Lykketoft is on a two-day visit to India at the invitation of External Affairs Minister.

Swaraj congratulated Lykketoft on his election as President of the landmark 70th Session of UN General Assembly which is expected to address several important issues, including adoption and implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, UN Security Council Reform, Review of UN Peacekeeping Operations, Climate Change, and Review of the Tunis Agenda (World Summit on Information Society).

The President-elect of the global body briefed Swaraj on his priorities for the 70th Session of the UN General Assembly.

Swaraj conveyed India’s expectations to achieve concrete forward movement under the Presidency of Lykketoft on the UN Security Council reform negotiations as well as finalization of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism.

During the visit, Lykketoft is scheduled to call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He will also deliver a Talk on the topic “UN at 70” at the Indian Council of World Affairs.
