Surjewala meets Shatrughan Sinha

New Delhi: Amid the campaign for Bihar elections, Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala on Monday met BJP MP Shatughan Sinha, who is seen to have spoken at variance with the party stance on several occasions.

Surjewala, who met Sinha at his official residence here, described the meeting as a “social call” and said no political inference should be drawn from it.

“I have deep regards for Shatrughan Sinhaji. Every personal relationship can’t be viewed from political prism. Hope media friends understand,” he tweeted later.

The meeting came as the campaign in Bihar elections is in full swing with two phases of polling already over and three phases remaining.

Sinha, who is an MP from Patliputra, has praised Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of the Janata Dal-United, which is part of a Grand Alliance with Lalu Prasad’s Rashtriya Janata Dal and Congress, and in a tough fight with the Bharatiya Janata Party-led combine.

Sinha’s name was among the star campaigners of the party for the polls but he has not addressed a single public meeting.

Some of his remarks and tweets have caused unease in the party in the past, including about Prime Minister Narendra Modi cancelling a number of rallies and on the spiralling prices of pulses.
