Sudhir Commission to seek public views on Muslim backwardness

The Inquiry Commission, constituted by the Telangana Government, to study the socio, economic and educational conditions of Muslims in the State, will seek the views of common people, NGOs, public representatives and others concerned on the conditions of Muslim community.

Inquiry Commission chairman G Sudhir told INN that the Commission has already begun its work and has been gathering information from different government and private agencies on the socio-economic and educational status of Muslims across Telangana. The Commission is presently collect data from official sources and later it would also seek information from private sector on the representation of Muslims.

The Chairman admitted of delay in initiating the work due to administrative reasons. Although the Commission has been provided office space, it is still facing shortage of support staff and other resources.

The three-member Commission of Inquiry, headed by retired senior IAS officer Sudhir, was appointed on March 3 this year. Besides Sudhir, senior lecturer MA Bari was appointed as the Member. When asked whether the non-appointment of third member would affect the functioning, the Chairman said that the Commission has already begun its work and decision on appointment of another member has to be taken by the State Government.

Sudhir expressed confidence that the Inquiry Commission would submit its report within six months from now. (INN)
