‘Stop propaganda, break silence’ on Anand Parbat case: Congress

New Delhi:Taking potshots at the BJP and AAP over the gruesome murder of a 19-year-old girl in central Delhi, the Congress Party on Monday asked both parties to stop the political propaganda and focus on the safety of women in the national capital.

Congress spokesperson Ajoy Kumar highlighted how both BJP and AAP had targeted the then Sheila Dikshit-led Delhi Government when the Nirbhaya incident had taken place.

“You will remember how in the Nirbhaya case, the way AAP and the BJP which was in opposition then had targeted Sheila Dikshit Government, now when an equally serious case like the Meenakshi case has taken place both the Delhi and the Central Government are silent on the issue,” said Kumar.

“The way they were busy doing political propaganda in the Nirbhaya case. Similarly, in this case both AAP and the BJP should take equal responsibilities so that the women in the national capital feel safe,” he added.

The Congress leader further said there is a need to prepare a broader framework before the police is handed over to the Delhi Government.

“Before the Delhi Police is transferred under the Delhi Government administration, there are a few issues which need consideration because Delhi is the capital city. You need to prepare a broad framework in which you should ensure that the law and order situation in the state would not be affected in any way if the Delhi police gets transferred under the Delhi government,” he added.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had yesterday announced a compensation of Rs. five lakh to the family of the girl, who was stabbed to death in Anand Parbat locality.

Kejriwal, who ordered a magisterial probe into the case, criticized the Delhi Police for the ‘deteriorating’ law and order situation.

The 19-year-old girl was allegedly stabbed to death on July 16 by two brothers living in her neighbourhood for protesting their verbal abuse. (ANI)
