Somnath Bharti case: Former DCW chief welcomes SC decision

New Delhi, Sept. 28 : Former Delhi Commission of Women ( DCW) chairperson Barkha Shukla Singh on Monday welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision in the Somnath Bharti domestic violence case, saying that the former Delhi law minister should heed the apex court’s order and surrender.

“I welcome the court’s decision. It has sent a positive message to the women of Delhi. The decision has shown that the court is above all, no matter who the perpetrator is,” Singh told ANI.

“Somnath Bharti should be ashamed of himself and he should surrender,” she added.

The Supreme Court today ordered Bharti to surrender before the Delhi police today failing which, they warned that they won’t hear his plea for bail on October 1.

Bharti had moved the apex court seeking protection from arrest in the case and a direction to restrain the Delhi Police from arresting him till his plea challenging the high court order is decided.

Bharti has been accused of domestic violence and attempt to murder by his wife Lipika Mitra. (ANI)
