Smith keen to reprise role as tormentor-in-chief

Melbourne : Australian skipper Steve Smith, who recently became the ICC’s cricketer of the year, has admitted that he wants to return to the position where he feels ‘untouchable’ as the batting marvel is on track to finish the year as the highest Test run-scorer.

The 26-year-old secured his sixth century of the year and overall 13th with an unbeaten 134 during the day two of the second Test against West Indies in Melbourne on Sunday.

Smith is currently leading the list of maximum Test run-scorer of the year with 1404 runs, with England rivals Alastair Cook (1357) and Joe Root (1312) and teammate David Warner (1300).

Reflecting on the same, Smith said that he was not feeling at his absolute top at the moment, insisting that he wanted to return back to his fearsome form which he had displayed during the last year’s series against India, News.com.au reported.

Meanwhile, Cook could end the year as the highest run-scorer if he could find another 48 runs in the second innings of England’s ongoing Test against South Africa in Durban.

Smith will also aim to extend his tally in the second innings of his side’s second Test against Windies. (ANI)
