Six killed in Pakistan checkpost attack

An army officer and five militants were killed when a military checkpost in Pakistan’s northwest tribal area of North Waziristan was attacked on Monday, local media reported.

Dawn News said that the unidentified militants attacked the checkpost, killing the officer in Spin Wam area of North Waziristan, a semi-autonomous tribal area along Pakistan-Afghanistan border adjacent to Afghan province of Khost.

The retaliatory firing by the security personnel left five militants dead.

The attackers, who used light and heavy weapons, escaped the scene following the attack, taking bodies of their accomplices with them, said the report.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
