At least six persons died and 15 others fell seriously ill after consuming liquor at Swarna Bar in Krishna Lanka area in Vijayawada on Monday morning.
The victims, all daily wage workers, fell sick after consuming liquor before going for work. They were immediately rushed to Vijayawada Government Hospital where six persons died while undergoing treatment.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu directed the Krishna District Collector and Superintendent of Police to take stern action against those responsible for the incident. Vijayawada Police Commissioner Gautam Sawang said that the bar has been seized by the Excise Department and all the samples have been seized and sent for forensic examination.
Excise Minister Kollu Ravindra also assured action against the culprits. He instructed the officials to provide the best treatment to those who are battling for life in hospital.
Leader of Opposition Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has expressed grief over the incident and demanded judicial enquiry into the incident. (INN)
