Siddipet declared ‘Open Defecation Free’ constituency

Siddipet has been declared ‘Open Defecation Free’ constituency on the occasion of Gandh Jayanthi on Friday.

A celebration was organised in Siddipet on Friday to mark the achievement. Assembly Speaker S. Madhusudan Chary, Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao, Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy, MLC Farooq Husain, Medak Collector Ronald Rose and other senior leaders and officials participated in the celebration.

Speaking on the occasion, Speaker praised Harish Rao, who represents the Siddipet constituency, for achieving the gigantic task of ensuring a toilet for every household. He said Siddipet has become a model constituency not only for Telangana, but for the entire country. He pointed out the Siddipet had been the epicentre of Telangana movement was represented by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao till 2004. Since then, Harish Rao has been winning from this constituency.

Harish Rao said that target of making Siddipet “Open Defecation Free” was achieved in a short time. He informed that the constituency was having 64,733 houses and every household is having a toilet now. He appealed to the people to maintain cleanliness and hygiene in their households and neighbourhood.

He also claimed that all streets in Siddipet were having CFL lights and 5 lakh saplings have been planted in the constituency so far. He said a target of planting 30 lakh saplings have been set for Siddipet constituency. (INN)
