Sheena murder: Indrani taken home to collect more evidence

Indrani Mukerjea, the prime accused in the Sheena Bora murder case, was on Sunday taken to her residence at Worli here in Mumbai in a bid to recreate the crime conspiracy and gather more evidence.

The Mukerjea couple — Indrani and her husband former media tycoon Peter — live in a posh bungalow inside the Marlow Cooperative Housing Society Ltd. at Worli, a prime locality in the metropolis.

A team of officers from the Bandra and Khar police stations escorted Indrani home.

The development came a day before Indrani (43), her former husband and Kolkata-based businessman Sanjeev Khanna (50) and driver Shyamvar Rai (43) were due to be produced before the Bandra magistrate court on Monday.

After the expiry of their third police remand on Monday, Mumbai police are likely to seek further extension of their custody.

Last Sunday, the accused trio were taken from Mumbai to Pen in Raigad district where Sheena’s body was disposed of — to recreate the journey, which was a vital part of the police probe.

Sheena was murdered in the late evening of April 24, 2012, allegedly by Indrani, Khanna and Rai.

Later that night, they allegedly drove to an isolated spot near Gagode village, burnt her body and dumped it in the thick forests. It was found a month later, on May 23, 2012.

The accused trio were arrested in August, and the police were still attempting to unravel the exact motive behind the three-year-old murder.
