Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif being received by senior US officials at Andrews Base, Washington DC on October 20, 2015

Lahore, Oct 21 : Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who is currently on an official visit to the United States, has formally announced the making of India-centric low yield nuclear weapons.

Sharif’s announcement was made on the occasion of his official visit to the US, the Nation has reported.

Earlier, Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary Aziaz Chaudhry told a news briefing that Pakistan had made nuclear weapon in response to India’s so called cold-start doctrine. It was the first time that a senior Pakistani official gave an explanation of the country’s decision to make tactical nuclear weapons, renaming it as the country’s proactive strategy, the Dawn reported.

Chaudhry also said that Pakistan would not sign any nuclear deal with the United States during Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s visit.

Sharif will hold a meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama on October 22.

U.S. reports have said that the Obama administration is trying to persuade Pakistan to sign a nuclear deal, which will enable Islamabad to join the Nuclear Suppliers Group if it agrees to accept certain restrictions on its nuclear programme.

Chaudhry said that Pakistan’s nuclear programme was not for starting a war but for deterrence. (ANI)
