Shabana Azmi urges people to join for Nirbhaya’s tribute

Veteran actress Shabana Azmi has asked people to join Nirbhaya’s parents in a tribute to the 2012 Delhi gangrape victim this December 16.

The 65-year-old “Arth” star, who was in the capital yesterday for “Women In The World” summit, met Nirbhaya’s parents and came to know about the “shradhanjali” they are organising at Jantar Mantar.

“Met Nirbhaya’s parents today. They are organising a shradhanjali for her on 16th December at Jantar Mantar. Please come in large numbers,” she posted on Twitter.

The 23-year-old paramedical student and her male friend were attacked by six men on December 16, 2012 after they got on a private bus while going home from a theatre.

Her friend was battered with an iron rod, which was later used to torture her. The couple was then thrown from the bus. The woman succumbed to her injuries 13 days later at a Singapore hospital.
