Sensex provisionally closes 558 points up

Mumbai: In a major recovery after Monday’s crash, a barometer index of Indian equities markets, the 30-scrip BSE sensitive index (Sensex) provisionally closed with gains of over 558 points on Thursday.

Similar moves were seen on the wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) which too made healthy gains during the day’s trade. It rose 162.35 points or 2.08 percent and provisionally closed at 7,954.20 points.

The Sensex of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 26,137.03 points, provisionally closed at 26,273.03 points (at 3.30 p.m.)– up 558.37 points or 2.17 percent from the previous day’s close at 25,714.66 points.

The S&P BSE Sensex touched a high of 26,302.77 points and a low of 25,943.75 points in the intra-day trade.
