Second phase of civic polls in Kerala begins

The polling for the second and final phase of the local civic body elections began today across seven districts of Kerala.

The polling began at 7 a.m. in Ernakulam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram.

A total of 44,388 candidates are in fray for the 12,651 seats in various local bodies of these districts. Over one crore voters are eligible for voting in the second phase.

The first phase of the civic polls was held on Monday in which Kollam, Idukki, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kasaragod, Kannur and Thiruvananthapuram distruicts went to vote. 77.83 percent voter turnout was recorded in the first phase of the polls.

The counting of votes is scheduled for November 7. (ANI)
