Sania Mirza demands chartered flight, expensive make-up kit, cash to attend govt’s sports award ceremony

Bhopal: Talented tennis player Sania Mirza did not show up as the chief guest of Madhya Pradesh government’s annual sports awards ceremony because the list of demands she made from the government could not be fulfilled.

The ace tennis star has been reportedly demanded a makeup kit worth Rs. 75000 and a chartered plane. The report also states that she demanded five business class tickets for her assistants. But does not mention how much money Sania demanded as fees.

MP Sports Minister Yashodhara Raje told Indian Express that she respected the tennis player but found her demands unacceptable which left her perplexed.

“We pay for economy class air ticket, accommodation in a star hotel and local transport,’’ a sports department official said adding Gopichand agreed for this and so did Saina Nehwal who attended the function in the past.

“It was Sania’s manager who kept all these demands due to which the Sports Department decided to drop the idea of inviting her. This incident has clearly sent a message to other sportspersons that the government will not entertain such demands in future too”, she further added.
