Congress senior leader and former MLA Marri Sashidhar Reddy demanded that Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwarlal be removed from his post for making remarks against the Election Commission of India.
Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan here on Saturday, Shashidhar Reddy claimed that some news channels have aired Bhanwarlal’s statement wherein he accused ECI of working under the pressure of BJP. He said such remarks by a senior IAS officer were highly intolerable. By making such an allegation, Bhanwarlal created suspicions over the free and fair functioning of Election Commission.
Shashidhar Reddy alleged that Bhanwarlal and then GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar have removed nearly 15 lakh names from the electoral rolls at the instance of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao. He said that the Congress party would soon submit a 17-page complaint against Bhanwarlal to the Election Commission. (INN)
