Run on Nov 28 for empowerment of Dalits

New Delhi:A first-of-its-kind run will be held in the national capital on November 28 to send out the message of empowerment of the scheduled castes and tribes in the country. The run in which a large number of Dalit men and women will participate will be flagged off at 6.30 AM from Jafta Masjid near India Gate. It will conclude at Jantar Mantar, BJP MP and party’s Dalit leader Udit Raj said.

The organisers of ‘Dalit Run’, All India Confederation of SC ST Organisation, has also invited a number of ministers and Parliamentarians to the event including Union ministers Harsh Vardhan and Smriti Irani and BJP MP Hema Malini.

The run seeks empowerment of lower classes in which the Dalit men and women will run for the first time for their rights and development, Raj said.

“The run gains a lot of relevance as the Indian government is celebrating 125th birth anniversary year of Dr Ambedkar and has dedicated two days of Parliament to mark the occasion,” he said.

“This move has shown the importance of Dalits in our country,” he added.

Marches and runs are often organised for various issues and causes but no such thing has taken place for the Dalit classes, Raj said, adding that he has also invited some people from elite classes to support the event.
