Relief fund row: Congress demands Maha CM’s resignation

The Congress Party on Saturday demanded resignation of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for doling out Rs. 8 lakhs for a dance troupe to visit Bangkok. The money apparently was taken from the state relief fund for the Bangkok peccadillo.

“What could be the greater travesty, money meant for relief fund or for an unforeseen situation is used in peccadilloes in Bangkok, it is a greater travesty and calls for the resignation of the chief minister,” Congress leader Manish Tewari told ANI here.

He also said that the money was administered by the chief minister directly, and therefore, if the money was misappropriated for a cause for which the money has not been collected, it was an extremely serious issue . He said the opposition must insist for Fadnavis resignation.

Congress leader Priyanka Chaturvedi on her part said, ” The Maharashtra Government is unable to address the problems of farmers who have been hit by the biggest drought in years, and added “The chief minister instead of addressing issues of the farmers is busy in giving money from chief minister’s fund for dance competitions.”

“It is extremely unfortunate and also reveals where the BJP stands and as far as law and order is , their own alliance partner cannot keep law and order in check in Maharashtra and seeks no accountability,” she said.

She also said that it is a suit boot ki sarkar at the Centre and even in the Maharashtra.

“It shows the lack of direction and welfare in Maharashtra, after the Congress government in Maharashtra, BJP led Shiv Sena alliance in Maharashtra is spoiling the administration,” PC Chacko told ANI here.

“Recent developments in Maharashtra show that in drought affected areas, farmers are dying, crop failure and no prices for the crops. None of these things are properly handled by the government. The Government is not concerned about the severe drought in the state and the suffering of the people,” he added.(ANI)
