Redesigning projects to prevent farmers’ suicides: Tummala

Roads & Buildings Minister Tummala Nageshwar Rao today claimed that the redesigning of irrigation projects was meant for transforming Telangana without farmers’ suicides in future.

Speaking to mediapersons at Khammam today, Tummala said the redesigning of the projects was aimed at protecting farmers’ interests and preventing their suicides in the State. He also slammed the Congress leaders for making false allegations that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was least bothered about unabated suicides by the farmers.

Though over 20,000 farmers had committed suicides during the previous a decade-long Congress rule in the State, the Congress leaders were mischievously pointing accusing fingers at the TRS Government, he deplored. “Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, moved by farmers’ plight, has undertaken redesigning of the irrigation projects only to prevent the farmers from resorting to extreme step”, he asserted. He also ridiculed the Congress leaders for conducting protests on roads.

The minister attributed the current pathetic condition of the farmers to the failures and inefficiency of the previous governments. The TRS Government was committed to provide timely financial assistance to the deceased’s families, he said and appealed to the farmers not to get disheartened. He also charged the Andhra Pradesh Government with creating hurdles to Telangana projects. (NSS)
