Ravi Shankar Prasad awards tablet PCs to digitally-trained tribal women

Saturday, 8 August,Bodh Gaya: In order to provide digital literacy to tribal and dalit women in Bihar, Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Saturday felicitated women who have got training from common service centres (CSC) and awarded them tablet PCs.

Most of these women are from the Dalit and Maha-Dalit sections of the society and they have been trained through the Common Service Center network.

The minister also launched a Disha mobile app which can be used to learn about computers and Internet.

The mobile app is prepared to spread digital literacy through self-learning modules. The app is free and is available on Google Play Store.

“Upscaling of the tribal women is important for their empowerment,” Prasad said here.

The Minister reiterated the Modi government’s resolve to go for direct empowerment programme so that tribal women can be brought in the mainstream and could support family in socio-economic upgradation.

The Minister also inaugurated the next generation network telephone exchange at Manpur in Gaya district.

He said introduction of new technology can transform the society and increase the pace of development.

Prasad said efforts need to be further intensified to bridge void in infrastructure and developmental gap between Bihar and other states of the country.

The minister said, “Central government would further enhance direct interventional programmes to bring rural Bihar closer to urban habitation and make the tribal population realise the benefits of development of which they have been deprived for long.”
