Rape victim accuses Gurgaon police of pressure

Gurgaon: A 21-year-old rape victim today wrote a letter to the Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court, accusing senior Gurgaon police officials for pressurising her to withdraw the rape case filed by her.

The victim, who alleged that she was raped at gunpoint by the owner of a paying guest accommodation she was staying in at Gurgaon Sector 39 on November 26, stated in her letter that Gurgaon police commissioner Navdeep Singh Virk refused to entertain her plea when she approached him with the case.

He (Virk) said that he could do nothing in the matter and asked me to leave the office. When I refused to go, he called a PCR van that took me to a woman police station, the victim said.

The victim reportedly registered an FIR against the PG owner Dharamveer Thakran at the woman police station on November 27.

The victim further added in her letter, “From day one, Gurgaon police ignored me. Some of the officials continuously put pressure on me to leave the city. They had also refused to register an FIR on the basis of my application. They agreed to it only when I went with a woman lawyer at ACP Sadar office.

“Gurgaon police treated me like an accused in this case. It gave a chair to Thakran to sit and served tea, while I was asked to sit on the floor,” she alleged.

Meanwhile ACP Sadar, Dharna Yadav said that the allegations levelled by the victim against the senior officials were “false and baseless”.

He noted that the medical tests of the girl had confirmed rape and they were investigating the matter.

“The FIR was immediately registered following the complaint and statement was recorded under 164 of CrPC act. Meanwhile it also came to the fore that the victim did not disclose her true identity while the FIR was being registered,” Yadav said.

The police added that the girl was handed over to her parents in Ludhiana.
