Rape accused’s kin locks up cops

Kurukshetra: Family of rape accused allegedly thrashed and then locked up a police team which went to arrest him in Udarsi village, police said today.

The police team was released after another police team led by DSP rank officer raided the house last night even as the accused managed to escape, they said.

A police team led by woman police Assistant Sub-Inspector, Parveen Kaur, one constable and a driver went to Udarsi on Saturday evening along with complainant and her son to arrest the accused identified as Raftar.

However, when police took Raftar in their custody, the family members of Raftar including his brother allegedly assaulted the cops and freed from their custody. They were allegedly locked up at Raftar’s brother’s house in the same village.

Complainant’s son then informed higher police officials about the incident. Then Kurukshetra DSP, Gurmaij Singh raided the house and got his teammates released.

Singh said a case under various sections of IPC has been registered at Kurukshetra police station and efforts are being made to arrest the accused.

The injured police personnel have been admitted to local hospital.

A case under sections 420 (cheating), 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC was registered by rape victim in the month of May last at police station Thanesar against Raftar.

However, he had been evading the arrest even as his anticipatory bail was also rejected by the Punjab and Haryana High Court some time back.

DSP informed that a police team was sent to Raftar’s house after it came to know that he had come home.
