In rain-hit-Chennai: Crying for help, woman sits with mother’s body for 20 hrs

Two days after heavy rain brought Chennai to a halt, with rain giving some relief to the Ta,il Nadu, people showed anger against the Central and state governments for not coming to their immediate rescue.

The relief and rescue operations are in full swing. But it seems the efforts are not put effectively.

In a time when all the victims are in dire need of help, this woman in Chennai’s Ashok nagar, spends nearly 20 hours with her mother’s body crying for help to carry the body to the burial ground.

“Her mother, a dialysis patient, passed away yesterday, but due to no transport facility, the woman sat helplessly. The woman’s friend continuously sought help from the authorities to send a vehicle to offer the dead a decent burial ritual. ”

“If any van could reach in a decent hour, we can give her a decent burial. Otherwise it’s going to be an epidemic breakout because the body is in a very bad situation. It is a big risk to others. She has no help, she is helpless. Please help her,” Woman’s friend pleaded.

Large parts of Chennai are flooded because of rain, and the water level is rising in many areas because of overflowing lakes and water released from reservoirs. At least 50,000 people were stranded in flooded homes and more than 3 lakh people rendered homeless.
