Putin gifts Mahatma Gandhi’s notes, Bengal sword to Modi

Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin has gifted Prime Minister Narendra an 18th century sword from Bengal and a page from Mahatma Gandhi’s diary containing his handwritten notes.

The gifts were given to Modi by the Russian President when they met in Kremlin here last night.

“President Putin gifted me a page from Gandhiji’s diary containing Bapu’s handwritten notes. President Putin also gifted an 18th century sword from Bengal, featuring intricate silver artwork. I thank him for the gifts,” the Prime Minister tweeted.

The 18th century sword from Bengal belonged to the Najafi Dynasty.

Putin hosted Modi for a tete-e-tete at the Kremlin followed by a private dinner during which both leaders touched upon issues of mutual interests for both countries.

The Prime Minister arrived here for a two-day visit yesterday, his first bilateral trip here after assuming the top office.

Modi and Putin will hold 16th India-Russia annual summit talks today at the Kremlin following which the two sides are expected to sign a number of pacts to expand cooperation in a number of key areas including defence, nuclear energy, hydrocarbons and trade.
