Powerful quake jolts Pakistan

A powerful earthquake of 7.2 magnitude today shook different parts of Pakistan’s northwestern tribal region but no loss to life or property was reported.

The quake’s epicentre was located in the east of Tajikistan, 120 kilometers from the nearest village, the US Geographical Survey said.

A earthquake of 7.2 magnitude and focal depth of 88 kilometers has hit different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, said an official of Provincial Disaster Managment Authority (PDMA).

The tremors were also felt in Pakistani capital Islamabad as well as in provincial capital of Peshawar.

The officials said that they are in constant touch with the district administration for reports about damages.

No damages has so far been reported to the PDMA, he added. Tremors were also felt in Malakand, Swat, Mingora and other areas of the province.

In October, 272 people were killed in Pakistan, including 225 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in a powerful 7.5 magnitude earthquake that shook the country.
