Police officer injured, naxal killed in encounter in Jharkhand

Ranchi: In an encounter between Ranchi Police and Naxals, a senior police official was injured while his driver and a naxal were killed in the outskirts of Jharkhand on Tuesday.

Ranchi Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Prabhat Kumar, who was injured in the gunfight in Khuti district, was rushed to a hospital, Jharkhand DGP DK Pandey told the media.

Pandey added that the operation was launched after they received information about the presence of naxal area commander Chandan, along with 10 others at spot on Khunti-Ranchi border.

He further informed that the Additional SP (operation Ranchi) and his bodyguard received minor injuries and their operation is underway.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said that he spoke to Prabhat Kumar who displayed exemplary courage while fighting the Naxal groups, was immediately rushed to the hospital and is out of danger now.

“Unfortunately one constable was killed in this encounter. I express my deep condolences to his bereaved family,” Singh said.
