Police foil Congress ‘Peace Rally’ at Charminar

The City Police on Friday foiled the ‘Peace Rally’ of Congress party and took hundreds of activists into custody.

Led by Greater Hyderabad Congress president Danam Nagender and former MP M. Anjan Kumar Yadav, hundreds of Congress workers assembled at Charminar. They wanted to take out the rally from the historic monument to Gandhi Statue at Secunderabad. However, the Congress leaders were prevented from taking out the rally on the reasons that they did not take prior permission for the same. The Congress leaders had a heated argument with the officials over the issue. Later, all the activists, including Danam and Anjan Kumar Yadav, were taken into custody and shifted to Kanchanbagh Police Station.

Speaking to media persons later, Danam said that the Congress leaders wanted to take out the ‘Peace Rally’ to appeal to the common people to participate in the Telangana Bandh on Saturday. He said that the TRS Government has failed to address the problems of farmers and it was now suppressing the voice of opposition parties through various means. He appealed to the people to participate in the Telangana Bandh to express their solidarity with the families of farmers who committed suicide. (INN)
