PM Modi to travel by road in Varanasi, administration racing to spruce up pot-holes

District administration is racing against time to spruce up the pot-holed roads ahead of visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who will travel some distance while returning from the temple city after visit on Friday.

Varanasi District Magistrate, Raj Mani Yadav said they have received the details of PM’s proposed visit to the city on September 18, according to which, Modi will reach Varanasi at 10:50 AM, and return to Delhi at 7:40 PM. While returning to Delhi, the PM would travel by road from Varanasi city to Babatpur airport (a distance of around 20 KM) from here
Work is going on a war footing to repair and to fill the pot-holes on roads that the PM would take during the his return road journey to the airport, said Yadav. The condition of pot-holed roads, which the city had been witnessing for past several years, have not changed even after PM Modi was chosen as an MP from Varanasi constituency. Union Minister Piyush Goyal during his last visit here had said PM Modi’s image was not getting sullied due to pot-holed roads of Varanasi constituency as the maintenance of roads was the responsibility of the state government.

After arriving by a special plane at Lal Bahadur Shastri airport here, PM will fly in helicopter to 39 Gorkha Training Cente (GTC) helipad in Cantonment area. From there, he will then go to attend various programs in the city, said Yadav. “PM Modi would first distribute the tricycles and other items to needy people at the multipurpose grounds here in the cantonment area,” said Sanjay Bhardwaj, media in-charge of Varanasi constituency as well as Purvanchal (Eastern UP) region.

As per the itinerary, PM will not go to Banaras Hindu University to inaugurate its much awaited trauma centre, instead he will inaugurate it through remote control from the DLW grounds, said Bhardwaj. At the DLW grounds, PM will inaugurate Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) and also lay foundation stone for a ring road project.

He will also launch a project for four-laning of a road and then address a public meeting from the same ground, said Bhardwaj. Earleir, Modi had cancelled his visit to Varanasi on July 16 after a labourer was electrocuted while decorating the stage at the DLW grounds. The trip of BJP president Amit Shah, who was scheduled to undertake tomorrow has now been cancelled citing an emergency meeting convened in New Delhi regarding Bihar elections.
