New Delhi: It is the second time that PM Narendra Modi remained absent for the Iftar party hosted by President Pranab Mukherjee under the pretext of meeting CMs of Northeastern region.

Northeastern region has been the focus of attention of Govt. of India but Modi did not hold separate meeting with their CMs. It may be noted that Modi did not attend Iftar Party hosted by President Mukherjee last year also.

Mr. Hamid Ansari, Vice President, Ms. Sonia Gandhi, Congress President, Mr. Rajnath Singh, Home Minister, Mr. Arun Jaitely, Finance Minister and the Ambassadors of Saudi Arabia, Syria, Jordan, Iraq, Pakistan and Bangladesh were also present on this occasion.

President Mukherjee in his message said that Ramzan is a month of forgiveness and blessings which reminds us of our duties for the downtrodden people. He hoped that the spirit of Ramzan will instill a sense of unity and pride in the composite Indian culture.
