Plea for Mumbai Port Linkage to AP Ports Via Telangana

Vice-Chairman of Planning Board S Niranjan Reddy has requested the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, to take up the project providing for linkage from Mumbai Port to the existing and upcoming ports on eastern side in Andhra Pradesh state via Telangana State, on the lines of the proposed linkage of Mumbai Port to Gopalpur Port in Odisha.

In a letter o the Union Minister, he said this Linkage will shorten the distance between the strategic locations and minimize the usage of expensive fuel which indirectly saves the foreign exchange. Further it promotes the local producers/produce exports and also meets the local enterprises requirements through imports. This will help in development of the area linked by this project like reduces transport time; by this the perishables may be moved to every nook & corner of the country and consumption by the people will be improved and it helps indirectly health consciousness of the people which strengthens the nation. Sholapur is famous for Cotton Mills, Power looms and Spinning mills, Gulbarga district is famous for Cement Industries, Tandur (Ranga Reddy District-Telangana State) is famous for Cement Industries. Mahabubnagar District is the seed hub of Telangana State.

Vast irrigated area under the Krishna Basin will enhance the agriculture produce may be exported. The unique added advantage is the International Airport at Shamshabad which is 10 minutes drive from Mahabubnagar district borders adjacent to NH 44. There are Bulk Drug & Pharma units in the District and one exclusive Pharma SEZ is on NH 44 at Jadcherla, it requires export & import facilities.

Since, the linkage from Mumbai to Pune (200 KM) and Pune to Sholapur (237 KM) is already four lane road. Hence, the distance for formation of four lane road from Sholapur to Vinukonda (Andhra Pradesh) will be 493 KM, he pointed out.(NSS)
